The $85 diagnostic
Inside the diagnostic visit
The technician arrives inside the two-hour window we confirmed by phone and starts by asking what the machine has been doing: the noise, the code, when it started. Before blaming the appliance, they check the outlet, breaker and incoming supply, because a tripped circuit or a dead receptacle looks a lot like a failed control board. Then the meter goes on the parts the symptom points to: a defrost heater’s continuity, an igniter’s current draw, a drain pump’s windings, a door lock’s switch. When a part fails the test, you hear its name and why it matters in plain words, followed by one written price covering the whole repair before anything is replaced.
Here is how the money works. Say yes to the written price, and the $85 you were quoted sits inside that figure rather than on top of it. Decline, and you owe $85 for the visit and nothing more; the technician puts the panels back and leaves the machine as it was. If the right part needs ordering, nobody bills a second trip when the technician comes back to fit it. If the readings say the machine isn’t worth fixing, the technician explains the findings, and that $85 closes the account. And if the maker’s warranty still covers the appliance, we tell you before any repair work, so that coverage can be used.
Two boxes on the booking form can lower the total. The first applies if we have never repaired anything for you before: tick “first repair with us,” or say so on the phone, and the repair price drops by up to $15. That reduction applies to the repair only and never to the diagnostic. The second covers a second machine. If the dishwasher is also leaving water in the tub while the technician is there for the dryer, the second appliance’s diagnostic costs $10 less, and it gets its own reading and its own written price. Neither box changes how the technician tests a machine; they only change the invoice.
