Gas range and oven repair in a Lynnwood-area kitchen

Ranges, ovens & cooktops

Ranges, ovens and cooktops across Lynnwood and nearby cities

Gas or electric in the kitchen tracks closely with how a city heats. Brier leads, with roughly two-thirds of homes on piped natural gas; Mill Creek is past half, and Edmonds and Mukilteo sit near half, so gas cooktops and dual-fuel ranges turn up constantly in all three. Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace are mostly electric, with about a third of homes on gas, and their apartments and condos run coil-top and glass-top electric ranges on Snohomish County PUD power. Remodels change the picture house by house. In Edmonds especially, older kitchens are being rebuilt around wall ovens, induction cooktops and rangetops that carry far more electronics than the ranges they replaced, and those control boards and touch panels bring their own failure patterns.

On gas ovens the weak point is the bake igniter. Besides glowing, it acts as the switch for the oven’s safety valve, which opens only once enough current flows through the igniter. An aging one still glows but passes less and less current, so preheating drags and finally stops. Electric ovens lose bake elements, which blister and split, and temperature sensors that drift. Self-clean cycles are hard on lock motors, thermal fuses and controls. A typical Brier call: a gas range that had taken longer and longer to preheat through the fall finally quit while a roast waited on the counter. The igniter glowed orange, but the meter showed amperage below what the valve needs. A new igniter brought the oven to temperature, which we confirmed with a probe thermometer.

Symptoms we see

Range, oven and cooktop symptoms we diagnose

  1. 01

    Gas oven slow or cold

A bake igniter that glows but never opens the gas valve is the usual cause; less often the valve itself or the oven sensor and control. We measure the igniter’s current draw with the meter, check the sensor’s resistance, and test-bake with a thermometer before calling the repair done.

  2. 02

    Igniter clicks, no flame

Clicking with no flame usually means a wet or food-fouled burner after a boilover, a misplaced burner cap, a cracked electrode or a failing spark module. Clicking that never stops points to a stuck burner switch. We clean and dry the burner, check cap alignment, and test the module and switches.

  3. 03

    Electric oven will not bake

A bake element that has blistered or split is the frequent culprit, often visible as a bright spot or a break along the coil. Concealed elements beneath the oven floor crack too, just out of sight. We test continuity on the bake and broil elements and check the relay on the control board.

  4. 04

    Oven temperature off

When cakes burn on one setting or roasts stay pale, the oven temperature sensor may have drifted, the door gasket may leak heat, or the convection fan may have stopped. We read the sensor against its expected resistance, check the gasket and fan, and adjust the control’s offset if the model allows it.

  5. 05

    Cooktop element stuck on

On radiant glass-tops the infinite switch or the element itself is usually at fault, sometimes a limiter. On induction cooktops it is more often a power board, a cooling fan or a pan that the coil will not recognize. We test each part and tell you if the glass is cracked.

  6. 06

    Door locked after self-clean

A self-clean cycle runs the cavity much hotter than cooking ever does, and the latch motor, lock switch or a thermal fuse sometimes fails during it, leaving the door locked or the oven dead. Don’t force the door; the technician tests the lock circuit, the fuse and the control, then releases the door safely.

Brands and models

Range and oven brands we see in local kitchens

GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Kenmore, Maytag and Amana make up most standard ranges in rentals and older houses, gas and electric alike. Newer houses add Samsung, LG, KitchenAid and Electrolux slide-in ranges, some with air-fry or steam modes. Remodeled kitchens, many of them in Edmonds, bring Thermador, Bosch, Miele and Café wall ovens, rangetops and induction cooktops. Double wall ovens, and dual-fuel models pairing gas burners with an electric oven, keep getting more common in the houses we visit.

Spark modules, infinite switches, oven sensors, surface and bake elements, broil elements and bake igniters ride in the van, the range parts we fit most often.

By city

Cooking appliances across the six cities

Brier kitchens run on gas more often than in any other city we cover, and Mill Creek is not far behind, so igniters, spark modules and burner valves fill those days. Edmonds and Mukilteo split close to evenly, with Edmonds remodels adding induction and wall ovens. In Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace, apartments and condos mean mostly electric ranges, glass-tops and coil-tops alike, with elements, infinite switches and oven sensors leading the list.

Repair or replace

Repair the oven or replace the range?

Igniters, elements, sensors, infinite switches and spark modules are contained repairs, and they make sense on any range whose oven cavity and door are still in good shape. Wall ovens and built-in cooktops lean even further toward repair, since a new unit must fit the existing cutout in the cabinets. Closer calls include a glass top cracked on an aging range, a control board that is hard to source for an older model, or an induction power board on a cooktop that has already needed other work. We name the part, explain where the cost goes, and put it in one written price. If you decline, the $85 diagnostic is all you pay.

FAQ

Oven or range repair questions

My gas oven now needs ages to reach temperature. Why?

A slow preheat that has crept up over weeks is the classic sign of a weakening bake igniter. It still glows, yet the current through it has dropped below what the safety valve needs before it will open promptly. The technician measures that current with the meter rather than guessing, and checks the temperature sensor so the oven reads true after the repair.

There is a gas smell by the stove. What first?

Turn off the burner if it is safe to do so, avoid flipping light switches, get everyone out, and phone the gas utility once you are outside. After the utility has cleared the area and the odor is gone, the technician can test the range’s own valves, burners and igniters and explain which part failed.

Do you repair induction cooktops in Edmonds?

Yes. Induction cooktops from Bosch, Thermador, Miele, Café, KitchenAid and Frigidaire are a regular sight in remodeled Edmonds kitchens. Common faults are a power board, a cooling fan that clogs with grease, a cracked glass surface, or a pan the coil will not detect. Give us the code on the display and the model number by phone or in the booking form’s notes.

The oven displays an error since the outage. Is it damaged?

Not necessarily. When the November 2024 windstorm knocked out power across Snohomish County, plenty of ranges came back with blinking clocks and codes. Switching the range’s breaker off briefly and back on sometimes clears it. If not, we check the outlet, breaker and supply voltage first, then the control board and its sensors, and say plainly when the home’s circuit is the culprit.

Do first-time customers get anything off?

Yes: on your first repair with us, the repair price comes down by up to $15. Mark the first-repair option when you book online, or mention it while we are on the phone. It comes off the repair, not the $85 diagnostic, which is folded into the price after you say yes to the repair.

Is there oven repair near me in Mill Creek or Brier?

Yes. Both cities are covered, along with Lynnwood, Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Mukilteo, and gas ranges account for many of the calls in each. Book online or call Monday through Saturday; you get a two-hour window on the callback, and a same-day slot is common when you reach us early.

Book the $85 diagnostic visit
